At 8:30pm

by Chris Sorrenti

It’s during these periods of not writing
some and one can go crazy in a way
it’s peaceful there - relaxing
but after a time with empty mind
all the fears of growing old
come to the surface
especially in the morning
when the body’s stiff as Rigor mortis
anxious for its first jolt of caffeine

No
for the most part
death does not scare us
tis more the aches and pains of failing bodies
in these latter years
what will become of us?
If we survive long enough
the horrors of having to move to
a rest home
for some
a fate worse than death

No dear reader
we do not strive to be gloomy
at this age it comes naturally
but not to worry
there are still plenty of magic moments
fun things to occupy
a writer when not writing
during the day - and at night
