It was only four days
but a necessary evil
from eight in the morning
till five at night
with an hour’s lunch break
at noon

The sound of power tools
men’s gloved hands
continuously tearing at the roof
heavy boots stomping
back and forth as if
poltergeists in the attic
up and down ladders
they scampered
till the job was done

By this morning
the old shingles only yesterday
littering the ground
were gone
as with the yellow tape
scaffolding
surrounding the entrance

And what do you know?
it’s Friday!
the sun is shining
HOT for October
