It’s a battle of wills
two three times a day I get the call
automated phone message
long distance
Bank of Montreal
otherwise known as BMO
“Please contact us as soon as possible
concerning an important financial matter”

Only problem is
I don’t bank with BMO
so chalk it up to an ongoing scam
as covered in the news
yet still the calls keep coming in
I never pick them up

Same for all long distance now
unless they leave a message
and even some local ones are scams

I could change my number
but this one has sentimental value
been my land line for over 34 years
and besides
what bad calls would I get
with that new number?
really just an old number
belonged to someone else
recycled

I could switch everything over to
my flip phone
a separate line
I currently only use for taxis
but the last thing I need is
all that crap bothering me
wherever I go

All I know is
today is Sunday
and they rarely call
tomorrow is a new week
and another opportunity to see
which side has won this war
