We toss the numbers around
once more
but nothing seems to add up
even tea leaves sometimes
carry fake news
though there’s always fresh writing
on everybody’s walls

Enjoy the day
not too warm
with a nice combination
of sun and cloud
a walk outside for exercise
and fresh air

For now
we can ignore the
personal storm clouds
in the distance
for what they carry
maybe tomorrow
maybe years away
unavoidable
either way
and how it will eventually
fall apart

Meanwhile
the prescriptions
for health and happiness
accumulate on a bookshelf
in a bedroom
each in sequence
to a time of day
bloodwork is scheduled
on a tri-monthly basis
with the routine
face to face follow up

Yes
we’ve all seen this play
many times before
call it a slow beginning
to justify an end
though there is no anger
or even sorrow
only acceptance

And until it finally
does unravel
all we can do is
keep filling
those empty boxes
tying up as many
loose ends
