We all feel it
at different times
in different ways

Some brought on
by ourselves
while much
beyond our control

And yet supposedly
masters of our own destiny
do what we can
to avert disaster

And just as every word
every silence
has a consequence
unable to shake the feeling
we’re being watched
wonder about the puppet-master
pulling our strings
