An empty box
from a past life it seems
kept for its ornate
shape and color
the way light or
shadow plays over it

Narrow too narrow
for cherished keepsakes
personal memorabilia
better suited for
ubiquitous shoe boxes

The container in question
itself best used
for a narrow bottle
what came in it originally
if memory serves correct

But there are no bottles
coming in or going out here
anymore to justify
even the small space
it once occupied

An avatar to
a past life it seems
and like its owner
at some time
to follow
must be recycled
