On Its Last Legs

What we call it in this house
The seven-day rule applied
And does it pass the smell test?
Not to mention decolorization
No matter
Chicken, pork, beef
(fish never lasts that long)
Deli or home-made
We don’t like to waste
Especially at today’s prices!
A shame that some of it
Still ends up in
The composting bin
