Back in the day
we could buy them
two for a cent at
McBride’s Convenience
in old Arnprior
kept the company in business
so to speak
for a while ha ha

Better than chewing gum
that quickly lost its taste
in those days
the meaty gum drops
coated in crunchy sugar mint
truly melting in your mouth
and not in your hands
all the way
down the hatch!

Later
after moving to Ottawa
still ran into them
from time to time
here and there
a nice surprise
but by then
I’d grown more guarded
with the dental bills

Recently
someone on Facebook
wrote they were still available
at Giant Tiger
nice to know
but thankfully
a little out of the way
I see it now as
no need to feed the Diabetes
more what it is
on any given day
