When I Die

by Chris Sorrenti

Don’t put me in a box please
pigeonholed enough all my life
spent 35 years
working in boxes
emptying some
filling others
my spine still bears the scars
from that experience

No
when I die
set my ashes free
flying into the wind
cause that’s where
my mind’s been
most of this time

Carried off
by the breeze
up into the stratosphere
and beyond
with no more loose ends
to tie

When I die
don’t put me in a box
please
