I like to go on flights of fancy
escape the drudgeries of this world
let my spirit free to explore
far off states of mind
talk in riddles
that on the surface
seem quite meaningless
between the lines
make perfect sense

Gather them in a golden chalice
carried home
dumped on a page
for all to marvel
while they peel their oranges
pick at their toes

The lawyers assuring
it’s perfectly legal
where ignorance of the law
quite alright
no liability
though sure to raise a few eyebrows

Calling for a collection all its own
name it
Empty Boxes & Loose Ends
