I got to see the above titled movie yesterday. For me, one of the best in a while.
The United States’ Internet system, and its satellites in space, are suddenly hit by a massive hacker attack, that renders any and all connected systems useless, sending the country back to the stone age. Who exactly is responsible for the attack is never made clear, but we’re given clues along the way, including the possibility it may have come from within the United States itself, as a first step in overthrowing the government.
Centering on two families brought together by circumstance, it takes place a little way up the coast from New York City, but still close enough to see the skyline in the distance, which is important to the story later on. As reality sets in, and they slowly wrap their heads around what has happened, they realize the world may never be the same again.
The movie is populated with an all-star cast, with lots of unexpected twists and turns from start to finish. A roller coaster ride of sheer terror, one minute, some of it quite spooky, balanced by lighter moments to cut the dramatic tension. The ending is priceless, and leaves the door open for a sequel.
If you’re into psychological thrillers, with a science fiction/end of the world theme, I highly recommend seeing it.
