Technically
each new poem is an experiment
and as no two inspirations
are exactly the same
no two poems will be the same
apart from different versions
of a single poem
drawn from the same inspiration

An experiment also because simply
that poem has never been written before
drawn upon the uniqueness of the inspiration

And as the words come
individually or in sentences
the piece takes form and tone
line and stanza breaks – size
message sharpened
so that the poem as a whole
stimulates on all levels –
visually, verbally, cerebrally, spiritually

Finally
a poet should not be afraid to break rules
take license with the inspiration
if it contributes to the strength of the poem
and ultimately poetry itself
