Years ago was a custom
I’d head over to Mom and Dad’s
watch the game with them
but more so Dad
with Mom checking in
now and then

Over a few brew
strengths and weaknesses discussed
player-wise and teams
cheerleaders!
and who was in
the halftime show?
on the edge of our seats
for the next intercept
or touchdown

If Ottawa wasn’t playing
I always cheered for the underdog
Hamilton Ti-cats
often a second favorite
especially in the Angelo Mosca days

When the game was over
Mom would call us up for supper
for roast beef and all the trimmings
then I’d hop in a cab
after saying our good byes
having to work the next day

So here’s to you Mom and Dad
hope you’re watching the game
save me a bit of that spiritual gravy
cause the regular networks
don’t carry the show anymore

Everything now is specialty channels
TSN at cost
not worth it for only once a year
yet the NFL games still
run over my 60 Minutes!

Just another sign of the times
I guess
