Junkers Ju-88

by Chris Sorrenti

One of the best weapons, among many, the Germans employed in World War II.

It was used throughout the Battle of Britain, but was no match for faster British Hurricane and Spitfire fighters.

One of the more bizarre experiments the Luftwaffe undertook was to pair a fighter and bomber; the bomber packed with explosives. It was known as Mistel.

When a target was acquired, the manned fighter would aim the pair of airplanes at the target, then jettison away from the bomber. Any damage they did was negligible.
