Perhaps you saw me as a jigsaw puzzle
with a lot of missing pieces
best solved at a distance
or close by under the supervision of friends
as in those formative neighborhood years

Some of the puzzle solved then
but I wasn’t ready to reveal the
last most important piece
so much work still ahead
before I could truly use your friendship
as a gateway into the world

You
always to be the fire...
alpha and omega
in your own unique way
Internet ultimately the tool
when someday you would join me
at least in spirit
where you could finally see
that missing piece for yourself

The same one I showed you
all those years ago
but a distant memory of high school hijinx
that grew more serious with the years
that missing piece
matured and having children of its own
with thanks to you dear friend
