One minute you’re a 15 year old boy
feeling like you’ll live forever
with your whole life still ahead of you
and unexpectedly
under the influence of various things
pen your first poem

Creative parents?
:
the world at large
multiple sides to a single personality
internal conflicts
under the influence of ADHD
and music

Billion Dollar Babies
Dark Side of the Moon
Electric Warrior
Good-bye Yellow Brick Road
Beatles Beatles and more Beatles
much much more

And it all mixes together
comes pouring out of you
in a teenager’s lament about LIFE

The next thing you know
you’re 65
retired for 10 years
with an ocean of poetry under your belt
thanks to a spiritual muse
and an earthbound muse -
the girl with the long brown hair

Life is still Life
and if anything
you’ve learned not to lament
what’s the point?
better to just put it down in words
as you once did
all those decades ago
on a hot June night
doing homework
radio blaring

with its prophetic Hello! Hurray!
