Old Habits by Chris Sorrenti
I turn a corner
expecting to see her
but she’s not there
come in from doing groceries
my little shadow
no longer to greet me
places where she used to
sit and sleep
a memory growing fainter
with each passing day
and at night I wonder worry
if she survived the gauntlet
to another life
both better off in one sense
but at such a price
die hard
