The privilege of retirement
though too much lying around
creates its own set of problems
not a good thing
for the chronically anxious
and as resolutions are made
to be broken
baby step goals
do the body mind and soul good
as vividly recalled
the illusion of youth

at 15
how 30 seemed so far away
even at 45
how the end seemed improbable
when the shock of seeing
loved ones dropping like flies
finally shook a dreamer back to
the reality at hand

and though planning for one’s own demise
can be taken only so far
doesn’t hurt to reduce the material footprint
as the cleanup of the past
continues intermittently
there’ll be plenty of time to rest
when that big sleep arrives
