Roots are only memories now
the way it’s always been
each chapter a separate story
not only cats have nine lives
actors that helped to make the history
gone their separate ways

Ah - but something light they ask
to mask our combined mental illness
A little Hey diddle diddle
Cat and the fiddle perhaps
to whittle away those
pre-Christmas blues

The roots are nice to fall back upon
get tangled in from time to time
but can’t live in the past they say
whoever they may be
though more often these days
better than living in the future
