Old Ironsides and a Mix Up of Ships

I’ve never seen a tall ship in real life, but have always marvelled at their beauty in photographs and film, and amazed at the complexity of their rigging and sails.

Launched on October 21, 1797, the heavy frigate, USS Constitution, after centuries of refits, has been sailing as recently as May 20th, 2022. She gained the nickname Old Ironsides, due to the fact that her solid oak sides are so hard, that in battle, cannon balls would literally bounce off of them, as if she were made of iron.

Being a warship, the Constitution has seen its share of death and misery. And this is where the mix up occurs. I had originally thought she had been purported to be haunted, when in fact it’s another American tall ship, the USS Constellation.

In November 2019, a team re-examining the case files of early paranormal investigator, Hans Holzer, on the show The Holzer Files, including lead investigator, Dave Schrader, psychic medium, Cindy Kaza, and equipment technician, Shane Pittman, did an investigation of the Constellation, with some surprising results.

The video link below provides a sample of the program.

Happy Halloween everyone!
