The one and only time I saw Cheap Trick (CT), live, was when they opened for Boston, here in Ottawa at the Civic Centre in 1977.
They were so bad, they and we were suddenly greeted with the sound of 9,000 people booing in unison. One of the sickest sounds I’ve ever heard. A first and only time, and one I never want to hear again. The amazing thing was that CT continued to play as if nothing was wrong, while the booing continued intermittently.
By the following year (1978), the band had improved on their sound, resulting in the release of the album, Heaven Tonight. Their famous At Budokan live album was also released the same year. One of my favorite CT songs is Surrender. It’s good on the live album, but I prefer the original studio version.
I'd have to say my favorite song off Bukokan is I Want You To Want Me.
