Farewell to One Use Plastics by Chris Sorrenti
In a matter of months
They’ll all be gone
Those convenient small bags
The grocery store provides
Soon only the reusable kind available
One use?
Drinking cups and straws
Are one thing
But everyone I talk to says
And what of all the cat and dog litter?
All the food waste?
Collected in those plastics
Paper don’t cut it
Even with the lining
In my green bin
One year
Led to an explosion of fly maggots
What a discusting mess
If that’s the way it’s to be
Then no more organic recycling
For this model citizen
When the axe comes down
Food waste and cat litter
Go right into the garbage
Green plastic bags of course
Just like the old days
Unless they do away with them too
So instead of only 2 bags next pickup
There’ll be 3 or 4 for the landfill
Stretch that over a period of time
And you can do the math
Think I’ll turn my green bin
Into a tall flower planter
Honestly environmentalists
You can’t have it both ways
