Aside from the dirt and grime
suddenly made visible
colors
as I’ve never seen them
rich and deep
or maybe forgotten
in the creeping deterioration

Until the next operation
a month away
a careful balancing act
between good eye on left
cataract right
a new kind of exhaustion
awoken

Told the doctor today
in the first follow-up
the left one’s so good
wish he had done both
he laughed
see you in a month from now
