Tick Tock by Chris Sorrenti
The days flow smoothly enough
all humanity caught in time’s illusion
break neck speed at a crawl
In the face of such paradox
the poet can’t help be dramatic
for himself
and the followers who read along
Though his scribbles may not all be masterpieces
honest accounts building into chapters
of a unique story
others can relate to
stepping stones
to future mutual hurrahs
As for time
as Carlos Castaneda once wrote,
“You either make yourself happy or miserable,
the amount of work is the same.”

Posted by Dane Campbell on 06/16/22 at 07:06 PM Hi Chris,
I relate to this piece on multiple levels. I've always thought time seemed like an illusory concept, though prominent figures in the field of physics could probably present ample evidence to the contrary. (Math makes my brain hurt.)
I also love the lines "the poet can't help be/dramatic for himself." I fully recognize that my own poems are often melodramatic analyses of events in my life, dialed up to 100 for effect.
Thanks for sharing,
