May 8th Reprise

by Chris Sorrenti

Its star is fading
But in a good way
Just like before
With a half-life of millennia
So the poet prophesized
Can’t say we weren’t warned

Will there be more poetry?
On that special date
Who can really tell?
It’s nice the way it ended this time
Who wants to spoil a good thing?
Though with a half-life of millennia
Who knows what the future brings

What’s important
Is that she was and still is beautiful
A distant star in a nearby system
Who outshines the moon
On an August night
Over a tell-tale heart
Happily shining back
With a half-life of millennia
