Retirement allows one
to indulge in certain pleasures
as someone starting his second childhood
it makes perfect sense

after all
one can watch only so much TV
chase a walk and wind outdoors
before it dissolves into boredom

and long gone the toys
possessed in youth
though one in particular
springs to mind
a simple yet brilliant drawing tool
available still at select stores

pieces of plastic pinned to paper
with carboard underneath
colored pens and wheel
to capture familiar geometry
but not quite placeable

the closest thing
those kaleidoscope tubes
peered through as kids
crank turned
to watch different shapes
fall into place
in perfect symmetry

Time to buy a new Spirograph
