Daunt

by Chris Sorrenti

This bedroom serves as a little bit of everything
where I often eat
talk to the world, and the world answers back
yes, it’s also a computer and radio room
and at the end of the day
if there is such a thing
where I sleep

Like living on a submarine
when I’m not stubbing my toes on the furniture
it serves as an office
like today
as I take the cards God dealt me
(enough lazing around)
despite the daunt
go back to work at what I do best

Pouring over poetry files
sorting which can be destroyed
(copies of poems already inputted)
and those treasures I continue to find
among the hundreds of pages
surprised at how much good material
remains from almost 50 years ago

Will I ever get to them all?
not kidding myself
as with everything
one day at a time
a delicate balancing act
between passion and fatigue
always making sure
it doesn’t stretch in to indifference
as it was in the beginning
so shall it be till the end
