Ode to Henry Gibson

by Chris Sorrenti

Oh, what to write about now?
no longer with a syringe up my arm

Look around you ‘Periscope Rotate’
the poem of Life is everywhere
so grand in all its chapters
you can never hope to capture
but a small portion of its words

Strive to maintain at least a small portion
of your childhood
but adulthood still manages to get in the way
you’ll be rewarded in good time

It’s been said
only children pass through the gates of Heaven
and the flowers and bees
give and receive their pollen
despite knowing they’ll soon be gone

Yes indeed
Anger is the birthplace of many a good poem
but now you’re cast as Dr. Marcus Welby
and the Phantom of the Opera
nowhere to be found
