Sparks

by Chris Sorrenti

How long has it been
since I last saw the sun
reflect in your eyes
heard your voice in my ears?

Only a short time
but seemingly a century
possibly without end
in these days of
progressive future shock

I guess things
can look a lot simpler
from the seat of a school bus
there’s more to life than
spares and Friday night dances

I’ll always cherish this place
this Carson Grove
and hope that you will too

We were only sparks of light
in one another’s lives
flashes of friendship
in the endlessness of time
but maybe somehow
somewhere in the future
our sparks will fly again

Some nice twists and turns of expression here - Gabriel Ricardesque at times, though this predates it/him. Have sparks, will fly.
