I sometimes leave the TV on downstairs
even though I’m up on the computer
too much quiet can be deafening
clock radio across the room playing
a steady stream of thought-provoking podcasts
while steering away for the most part
from the news in Ukraine
reality check – house is still standing

And amazing how empty this house can seem
with only one person in it
too full at times with the two of us
son’s away visiting mom in Calgarytown
till the end of the month
so pole dancers and strippers
must be out by eight
while this old man’s bedtime
changes from hour to hour

As too often before
and yet not enough
I savor the silence - a long forgotten wine
though best not to drink too much of it
