Four years since we’ve
laid eyes on one another
let alone broken bread
and though time
is no longer significant
that amount changes people
the pandemic aged us
in unexpected ways
but for the meantime
the coast is clear

Apart from grown up kids
grandkids getting up there
we three all that remains
of the original family unit
mom gone thirteen years
at the end of the month
ten for dad
brother sister brother
the way it’s always been
we welcome the opportunity
to break bread together
knowing someday
there will only be two of us
and then only one
