day by day
the blur sets in
deeper
progressives
can only do so much
not enough
to stop the
growing shadows
in daytime
but mostly at night
glare inhibiting
view of walk sign
under bright sunlight
at any intersection

arthritic knee also
calls for attention
cartilage replacement
but inner voice says
one thing at a time
only so much money
for taxis
in any given month
consultations
testing and surgery
must be carefully planned

outings of any kind
cause a new exhaustion
as in the pandemic
sleep an ally
the only escape
from eyes and leg
two hours at a time
sometimes more
but mind and body
can stand only so much
rest before
temporary rigor mortis
sets in

things taken for granted
scant years ago
seem Herculean
on certain days
