People are lonely
especially us older folk
my friends talk about
or hint at it
on social media
I’ve discussed my own
in more ways than one
some losing loved ones
along the way myself two
one possibly from covid

The pandemic has taught us to isolate
in new and unexpected ways
we’ve gotten out of shape
in carrying on the face to face
Zoom and Facebook, telephone
not the same
that it feels like something new
or better a while forgotten
like riding a bike for the first time in years

People are lonely
the crisis finally lifting
time for us to come out
and come together again...

But fill up that gas tank while you still can
