when you look in the mirror
what do you see?
Joseph Stalin without the mustache?

Having shown your true colors
for all the world to finally see
in a televised two-hour rant
on how it was a mistake
to let Kyiv go her own way

We all had such high hopes
when the evil empire fell apart
you at the helm of the KGB
appalled at what Yeltsin had
relinquished under the influence
of democracy
and too much vodka

Biding your time
you were happy to assassinate defectors
let Russian IT hack into
as many systems as possible
yet always denying it
as one by one the dominos fall
under your bullying

Some will welcome you with flowers
while others shake their heads
and tears
as you inhale those magic memories
of when the USSR was something
to be reckoned with

Why does it always seem
short men become the best dictators?
Putin Hitler Napoleon...
making up for their shortcomings
in brash ridiculous...tragic ways

I too am a short man
but have learned to bang out
my frustrations on a keyboard
rather than invading the United States
or Mexico
and as history will no doubt show
a much safer line of work
