a fable

by Nancy Ames

so there is a fable
I made up about
a little bird who
got so fascinated
by the big nasty
snake, by its fangs
and hissing mouth
spitting its poison
and long undulating
body and intricate
menacing movements
of its snake-head,
that the little bird,
just for a minute,
forgot that we can
fly.

This was fun to read. Enjoyed the structure, also.
