We had hoped the worst was over
as yet again outings reduced to
groceries / medical appointments
after a few short weeks
Omicron is surging everywhere
with daily record-breaking infections
in the Maritimes and Quebec
school / hockey games postponed
public venues reduced to 50% capacity
staff shortages and burnout in every hospital
military on standby if asked to assist

Christmas was of the electronic variety
for some of us while others took their chances
buoyed by the availability of testing kids and boosters
and now we’re seeing the results
lucky are those who don’t have to live alone
able to share their bubble with a loved one
while Canadians as always take it in stride
with ever an eye on tomorrow
no matter how difficult at times to put up a smile
