Laugh?

by Chris Sorrenti

So you want to laugh at
the hurdy-gurdy poet
For having no choice
But be himself

But what good is there
Shouting at a deaf man?
What could possibly be achieved
Shining a spotlight
Into a blind man’s eyes?

Go ahead...laugh!
And watch the result
As you douce his fire with gasoline
And he laughs right back at you

Author's Note: This latest crop of older poems (pre-2000), I don’t consider to be my best work. Still, every so often, one or two with a little bit of TLC, turn out to be suprisingly good, and well received. There are things I like about them and things I don’t, but as I’m not getting any younger, felt that as long as I can, I should fix them up as best as possible, and let their uniqueness and individual voices determine how well or not they are received.
