Monkey's Dead by Chris Sorrenti
Kill the monkey!
Commanded the guardian apparition
And backward repetition dies
Sour grapevine is neutralized
Like so many sides to a passing sin
Why do you love him?
When he could easily kill you
When you could have...
Love eternal life
Ah yes!
But there’s commitment
On a grandiose scale
Something I haven’t taken a liking to lately
You’ve been affectionate
Like a half-tamed cougar
Helping me find my way
Through the well placed mess
But don’t expect to be
Bumming cigarettes off me
For the rest of my life...love?!
Is it really your pet?
Or some mutated primate
You picked up in the trees
Along the way
Verses so miscalculated lately
This the result
Though I want to be
Musically in key
Where?
The other’s Canadian poetry’s
Been blowing in my beard
Just have to kill a monkey
And the monkey will be dead
Monkey’s dead
