Throughout life
pictures and words
always my friend
now unknowingly
toil against me
as the weeks progress
three months to surgery

Computer
can be magnified only so much
a temporary solution
that works
but for how long?
as my face moves steadily closer
to the screen

Outdoors
people I’ve known for years
stop and say hello
forcing me to apologize
at my unintended rudeness
they smiling in sympathy
when I tell them the score

Continuing on my way
to the supermarket shelves
small mountains
of shapes and colors
my favorite brands fortunately
still recognizable
with or without glasses
