Doobie Brothers - Black Water

by Chris Sorrenti

When I first heard the song, Black Water (1974), by The Doobie Brothers,
it didn’t reach out and grab me like some music, and so, didn’t pay it much attention.

After all, my recollection of the Doobie Brothers to that point was their album,
The Captain and Me (1973), with the hits China Grove (my intro. to the band
via The Midnight Special), and Long Train Runnin’. One of those albums where
every song was pretty good IMHO. So, to me, at least at the time, Black Water
was too much a departure from their previous album.

I now realize, that bands change, and their music evolves. As I’ve mellowed out
over the years, and my taste in music had broadened, I must confess that
Black Water has grown on me.
