He’s a typist with only two fingers
never educated to use all eight
but did try once upon a time
signed up for a class in grade thirteen
but his heart was no longer in
the systematic learning game
dropping out by Christmas
the same year

And so
he struck out on his own
with a key stroke here
a key stroke there
as he always had
having to do it by his own book
as each of us must
in our own his or her way

ABCs rearranged in such a manner
as only an inexperienced writer can
though picking up advice along the way
that would help him rise above
his shortcomings until fifty years later
he looks back in amazement
at what two fingers can accomplish
when hooked up to the right mind
