Canada is not a country
doubtful if it ever was
more a patchwork of polarizations
rubbing one another the wrong way
made all the more complicated
throwing in those Native land rights

Federal parties pandering to Quebec
for fear of losing votes
over a discriminatory Bill 21
including the NDP Sikh
shame on you Jagmeet Singh
while la belle province cries out
maudit Anglais!
stop bashing us in the head

And yet many will argue
this is still a great country
could be greater if we tried
took a pandemic
to bring us closer together
an unnecessary election
to keep us apart

600 million dollars later
another minority win?
for the fake feminist
Justin Trudeau
the uncertain Conservative
Erin O’Toole not far behind

Back to where it all began
when the writ was dropped
barely a month ago
as this discordant band of misfits
plays on and on
we get what we do
and don’t deserve
