Mission accomplished. My gut instinct changed its mind over the past week, and so taking a gamble, rescheduled my second dose to yesterday. Took the bus and LRT downtown to the Rideau Centre, and then walked over to City Hall, where I got my first shot in April. This time it was Moderna (the first vaccination was Pfizer). I was in and out even faster this time, and as of today, there have been no side effects.
I even have Jason finally checking over the provincial portal site, and with me completely vaccinated, some of his friends as well, hopefully the right incentive.
As of last week, Ontario went into phase 2 of its gradual reopening, and so I finally got my haircut (again a month overdue) earlier this week on Monday. My hair wasn’t really that long, but long enough that it drove me crazy during the 3-4 heat waves we’ve had so far. Hard to believe I used to wear it that long or even longer when I was in my 20s. They still don’t do beard trims at the barbers, but I pretty well have that under control at home with my beard trimmer. During the lockdown, Jason even offered to cut my hair, but I turned him down, saying that I'd keep it in mind.
As of July 16th, Phase 3 is set to begin (5 days earlier), which means indoor dining in restaurants again. Right now, only outdoor patios are open.
Despite all that’s going well, there’s still talk about a possible fourth wave. This bodes especially for some other countries like the UK, on shaky ground due to the Delta variant, but most of Canada seems fairly stable. Despite declaring a COVID state of emergency, Japan will go ahead in hosting the Summer Olympics, though no spectators will be allowed into the country, only the athletes and press.
Jason and I are in the process of setting up my computer camera, and getting Zoom going.
