I was feeling a bit overwhelmed last week. Nothing to do with the pandemic; it’s always overwhelming. I found out from a mutual acquaintance on Facebook that an old friend, Christine Atwell, passed away two years ago, from Cancer. Losing Gaetan and Dawn last year were bad enough, and now another one. We lost touch years ago, and although I’m heartbroken to know she’s gone, glad she didn’t live to see and have to endure COVID. In response, as with so many...too many, I wrote her a tribute poem, titled simply For Christine.
Things have started to improve all over North America, and many other parts of the world. Of course, there are still hot spots. With an increasing number of people vaccinated, the States are really opening up, including New York and New Jersey, which were at the epicenter of the first wave.
Ottawa, as the rest of Ontario remains in lockdown, though the Conservatives have a plan for gradual opening. Quebec is lifting its curfew with its own plan. I’ll kinda miss having certain items delivered to the door, rather than a bus trip downtown.
Vaccines continue to flow into the country, as more and more receive their first shot (as I did in April), and a smaller percentage, the second as well. The age level of those who can get them, continues to go down. Jason can now apply, but is holding off for a little while till things calm down.
It made me sad to see Hamas and Israel firing rockets at each other the past couple of day, though a ceasefire has been agreed to, effective tomorrow morning. Is this what beating the virus means? Going back to the old waring ways? In one sense, the quiet was unsettling, but nice in another way, in the reduced traffic, noise, in the air, on the ground, as well as strife on the world stage.
I’m sweating to a degree as I write this, even with the AC on, as Ottawa is enduring it’s first heat wave of the season, which always comes in May.
Medically speaking, I have a busy schedule for the next little while. An eye exam next week (postponed a couple of times), then a knee X-ray and bloodwork the following week. The week after that, I have a phone appointment with my doctor to discuss the results.
