Hmmm
maybe it’s time to hang up
this old pen
or put it down
depending on how one looks at it

After all
the pandemic is almost over
give or take a few months
a year
though as so many things
largely out of my control

Lords know
it don’t run like it used to
at the mouth
in general
skips now and then
as my heart once did
when first discovered
what it could do

Now its ink is fading
as the sun over the horizon
leaving a deep blue sky
that beckons me to follow
that special star
once lighting up an innocent
inexperienced child’s mind

So...

Or maybe it’s just time
for a brand-new pen
