Pretension by Chris Sorrenti
this poem isn’t about anything
because I’ve got nothing of value to say
though it’s big and beautiful
filled with cleverly combined words
pulled from the dictionary
and not from my heart
to sound mystical and profound
yet showing no emotion
in truth therefore meaning nothing at all
my imaginary degree in psychobabble guaranteeing
publication in the finest creative writing magazines
along with the drivel of countless others like myself
so that we may heap accolades upon one another
confirming only
there is indeed safety in numbers
