Night Eyes

by Chris Sorrenti

My dad was right
I should have used more light

Often he would catch me
reading comic book in the dark
with my vampire vision
sluffing off his advice
of turn on a light
as an old man nuisance

I wanted to bite him on the neck

Who knew?
macular degeneration
could give even vampires a shudder
whole new look on life
and a different meaning of death

How at night now
I prefer to have lights
strategically placed throughout the house
to keep from tripping over
these old man legs
Progressives included
with only myself to keep company
in the wee hours

As for vampires
even though they’re fiction
don’t believe the stories
for although we are fierce
nocturnal...immortal creatures
easily tinged by the Sun…

Appreciate ever more so
in our own way
this period of darkness

...a guiding light

My Ex Vanpired proof the house. He swore there were Vampires. We all believe in things that others don't understand. Liked this alot- interesting read
