Chapters Turning by Chris Sorrenti
Having witnessed and survived
the great invasion
may 2014 to december 2017
while connecting the dots
of this, that, and a few other things
the waters had receded as predicted
flood gates once again closed
save a fraction left open
to the occasional spillage
Dribs and drabs would be a good way
to describe the period that followed
january 2018 to december 2020
a time to recharge the batteries
with no hint of the calamity ahead
for the playful muses
if not God himself
had not finished with addictive behavior
in matters of things invasion
On the ground the rain still fell
in gentle sprays
deceptively simple the first waves
truth be told
the artist was floundering creatively
one of many ruts that had visited
over the years while
be careful what you wish for echoed
instinctively knowing what lay ahead
Drabs and dribs soon grew
too big for their britches
fueled by facebook and its
inevitable wallpapers
to the pungent aroma of
marijuanada legalized
filling the halls and streets beyond
to the sweet fragrance of earth
dampened by the rain
signaling the soil was still capable
a new growing season had indeed begun
Gentle floods
filling the pages once more
as be careful what you wish for
now flew on banners in city squares
soon to be evacuated by a new invader
who would show no gentleness
and yet still defeated
by epidemiologists
an arsenal of vaccines
used to create a new legend
as recorded in the chapters
of corona diary, covid-19
With herd immunity finally achieved
the cites centers once more filled
but with survivors
their flags though faded jaded tattered
flying high between the maples
carrying a simple message...
Tomorrow is another day
