As with any war
necessity is the mother of invention
new weapons are developed
to defeat an enemy
large or small

With us or them mentality
resources are committed
no matter the cost
to study an opponent’s
strengths and weaknesses

Building on past defeats/successes/advances
at the microscopic level
viruses
mindless clones
but of one mind
are viewed in similar fashion

Antibodies are developed
from those who’ve survived recent battles
as one kind of weapon
in combination with a growing list of
recent discoveries

Duplicating an adversary’s modus operandi
to trick it into attacking
decoy cells with hollow shells
upon which the intruder dies

What once took years
now only months
nothing is wasted in the learning process
in helping mankind prepare
for the next invasion
