I can go out now
but only on the hospital grounds
in the company of another patient
sometimes over to nearby
Westgate shopping centre

Fought my first migraine last night
the side effect of total withdrawal

Blood vessels in the brain collapsing
from too much caffeine and speed
over the years
hidden behind a cloud of
alcohol and codeine

Now
partially my own fault
not getting enough sleep
during a TV/reading/writing day

The hot water bottle helped a lot
and without falling prey
to the three headed dragon of Denial
it’s amazing what a little bit of rest will do

And the vitamins, Erythromycin
three squares a day
are giving me back my strength
and willpower
leaving me nowhere else to go
when I get out of here
but full force into the world system
